Walk 236 - Y Lliwedd, Lliwedd Bach
Summit pano
Distance: 11.4km
Ascent: 940m
Apr 2025 - Ascent from Nanygwynant. Gemma would not be shifted from the bed this morning, however she has promised to walk tomorrow. After failing to peel her from the quilt, I headed off, picked up a sandwich in a nearby garage and drove to the start point. It was already blatantly obvious that it was going to be a glorious day. The ascent was made in sweltering heat with no breeze whatsoever until I reached Bwlch Ciliau. From this point on, I saw nobody else until I rejoined the outward path much later on near the waterfalls. Glorious. Enjoyed the scramble up to the summit of Y Lliwedd and spent a long time up there with absolutely magnificent views in every direction. Such an amazing place to be, when you know that the nearby summit of Snowdon would be absolutely rammed with folk. Fantastic ridge walk down to Lliwedd Bach, and a short while, after this, I descended steeply to the disused quarry workings in Cwm Merch, avoiding the enormous holes in the ground around here that are stomach-churningly deep. The path from here follows an old tramway terrace. Eventually, I found some shade where I had lunch, before the reluctant descent to the car. Gorgeous day.
