Walk 226 - Snowdon, Garnedd Ugain
Distance: 13.5km
Ascent: 920m

Dec 2024 - Ascent from Pen y Pass. Managed to park at Pen y Pass at 9am despite half the parking area being occupied by building works. Took the Miner's Track which is beautiful, with the Glyders as a backdrop and the bulk of Moel Siabod to the south. The morning light was fantastic and the ascent was ridiculously quiet. Crib Goch was illuminated across the Llyn Llydaw causeway and the undulating ridge of Y Lliwedd towered to the west. It was clear at this point that the clag on Snowdon's summit was unlikely to shift. It didn't. Things got really icy once the Pyg Track was joined, with the worst bits being the water that had run across the path and frozen. Half slipped and banged my elbow a beauty. Very sore as I write this. The summit of Snowdon was freezing so there was no chance of sticking around to see if it would clear. I crossed over to Garnedd Ugain, a favourite summit, to lengthen the route in the hope the cloud would lift but to no avail. On the descent via the Pyg Track, the rescue helicopter was out and focused on the upper reaches of the Watkin Track. Enjoyable stank today and the quietest I've ever seen Snowdon's summit.
