Nov 2024 - Ascent from Llanbedr. Although the thick hill fog remained clinging to the tops throughout the walk, I really enjoyed the solitude today. The colours in the valleys were absolutely amazing. Once up above 500m though, there was nothing but the occasional pony looming from the clag. I visited Llanbedr Gorge at the beginning of the walk, recommended by my good pal, Andy, and it was lovely. I did manage to keep my feet dry today, which was a bonus, zigzagging around saturated ground, and bog. There is some major path work underway between Pen Cerrig-calch and Crug Hywel, with literally hundreds of helicopter flown-in bags, waiting to be unloaded, lining the path. Great view across to Sugarloaf. Staying in the apparently haunted Old Rectory Hotel near Crickhowell tonight. It’s a mile into the town and as I later found out, absolutely pitch black for the majority of the walk. Hopefully I’ll make it back later.
