Walk 111 - Snowdon, Garnedd Ugain
Distance: 12.5km
Ascent: 965m
Dec 2019 - Ascent from Pen y Pass. It is great to be back in Snowdonia after a long term. Parked up in the strangely emptyish Pen y Pass car park and I was off. During the ascent, there were great views to Y Lliwedd and some interesting early morning cloudscapes. I took the Miner’s path up to the foot of the Y Cribau ridge, a scrambling route up Snowdon with some grade 1 sections that I’d yet to tackle. The rock was extremely slippery but it was an enjoyable scramble in an amazing situation. It deposited me on the Watkin path and, now in pea soup cloud, I ascended the scree to gain the south ridge. The summit of Snowdon was quiet; another surprise, but appreciated. I then crossed to Garnedd Ugain, a summit that's always deserted but a great place to be, which was also above the snow line. The descent was via the PYG track, again in swirling cloud.
