Travelling Trev
Avalanche Peak - Yellowstone
Distance: 8km
Ascent: 660m

Aug 2016 - (with Gemma) Ascent from Eleanor Lake. It's a really strange/unsettling feeling... climbing a mountain when you know there's Grizzly Bears knocking about! We ascended in the knowledge that this trail is a 'high frequency Grizzly encounterance route.' The views were tremendous and the elevation and various vantage points enabled us to gain a real geography of the park. We made it to the summit 'bear free' and teamed up with another three hikers for the descent (one of them had bear spray, a cannister that resembles a fire extinguisher...extra bonus.) I'd love to see a bear, but at a distance. Views from the summit, as you'd expect, were amazing across Yellowstone Lake and down to the Tetons.
