July 2020 - Ascent from Fersit. An hour drive to Fersit from Kingussie. There was an irate farmer at the start point who informed me (and others turning up in the sizeable car park) that he’d put haybales in front of our cars to prevent us leaving after our walks. I assured him I was a responsible walker and, to my knowledge, Covid free, and he muttered something under his breath and left. Unfortunately, my route meant I had to follow him for a while before striking off southwards over the open moor. This was uncomfortable. As height was gained, there were stunning views across to the Easains backed by the summits of the Grey Corries. Eventually, a great ridge led me to the top of Stob Coire Sgriodain. The summit was a magnificent viewpoint, with Coire Sgriodain dropping very steeply away to the west giving tremendous depth to the views of Loch Treig, and beyond to the Mamores and the peaks of Glencoe. There was plenty of rocky ground between the two munros. Once I’d reached the summit of Chno Dearg, the Creag Meagaidh massif appeared from the cloud to the north. I was also surprised by how relatively close Beinn na Lap was which I climbed late last year from the remote Corrour station. The lengthy descent was across pathless saturated moorland which was tricky footing but easy on the knees. When I finally arrived back at the car, there were no haybales.
