Oct 2022 - Ascent from Arnisdale. The walk began at Arnisdale village, a beautiful and extremely peaceful and remote spot. The ascent begun with a climb up behind the village on boggy ground. Higher up the way crossed the main burn and steepened considerably. It required a sustained effort to continue the ascent steeply right up to the bealach. Just before the bealach, I met Barry, a lovely chap from Kirkcaldy, who became my walking buddy for the rest of the day. He's only 20 summits from becoming a 'compleatist', however has managed to save some of the best Munros until his last 20! From the bealach, the route steepened once more, aiming for a 908m top before we enjoyed a superb ridge towards the main summit. On the final rise, the ridge became narrow and airy. The views over Knoydart and Barrisdale Bay were superb, as was the vista north and northeast-wards over range after range of Kintail peaks. Lunch was enjoyed on the summit where it cleared intermittently, affording views west to the Cuillin, and south-west to the islands of Rum, Canna and Eigg. Collie. Eventually, we peeled ourselves away from the summit before beginning the descent down the west ridge of the mountain towards a small lochan. The steep descent from there took us steeply down through the Collie Mhialairigh forest, a fascinating woodland. More tales of Munro adventures were shared on the road walk back to Arnisdale. Fabulous walk and great to encounter a kindred spirit!
