Walk 107 - Carn Mor Dearg, Ben Nevis
Distance: 18km
Ascent: 1685m

Aug 2020 - Ascent from North Face car park. Great expedition today. Met some great folk including a woman from the homeland. Turns out, she was a teacher from Bude and we walked together awhile had a great chat. In fact, I prevented her venturing onto the north face unplanned. She followed me to safety. Ascended to the CIC Hut and then struck up steeply to the summit of Carn Mor Dearg. Fleeting glimpses of Nevis’ north face at this stage and had already decided by this point to cross the arête twice in order to avoid the masses and give the cloud a chance to clear. The CMD Arête is quality and I enjoyed it again immensely. Steep pull up over the boulder field to the summit of Ben Nevis followed. Spent about ten minutes on the summit, just a snack then track back. Some awful people on the summit. Less said, the better. Some Brocken Spectres kept me mesmerised as I crossed the arête once more, with the north face of Nevis finally being revealed. Met a chap from Inverness here who’d done the Ledge route on the north face and chatted for ages. Plenty of ascent today, but incredible panoramas to allay the fatigue. The Mamores and upper Glen Nevis looked fabulous. Descent was enjoyable. Head in stream once more in the ridiculous heat.
