Aug 2020 - Ascent from Nevis Gondola. After yesterday’s epic, an easier walk was in order. I last did these two 4 years ago from Glen Nevis, the purist’s way, so I didn’t feel guilty about using the cable car from the Nevis Range up to 600m. I’m glad I did as, after ascending rapidly to 1200m, I was greeted by a glorious partial inversion. In fact, the clouds were spectacular throughout the walk, providing ever-changing vistas. Sat and had a snack whilst they swirled around Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis itself. The sun was brutal today and I applied sun cream several times, absolutely no shade up at this height. Spent ages on the summit of Aonach Beag but had company – a Snow bunting that was amazingly trusting. Tried to coax it to eat from my hand and almost succeeded. It ate its fill of biscuit crumbs that I offered, and then would take some off before returning for more. Obviously, some family nearby. Extremely cute. The views of the Grey Corries were fab, and I could see across upper Glen Nevis to yesterday’s summits.
