Walk 103 - Beinn Achaladair, Beinn a'Chreachain
Distance: 22km
Ascent: 1322m

Aug 2020 - Ascent from A82 near Achaladair Farm. Out early and decided to tackle these two in the less common anti-clockwise direction. So glad I did, as the best of the views were in the morning before the cloud descended and clung to the tops. The ascent up through the Coire Achaladair was stunning with the north face of Beinn an Dothaidh and the tumbling waterfalls of the Allt Achaladair as company. Eventually, it led to Coire Daingean, an amazing place with stunning rock scenery. Here the views east to the Loch Lyon munros were fabulous. Then began a fantastic ridge walk that lasted for ages. Initially, there were excellent views across the desolate expanse of Rannoch Moor and towards the Glen Etive tops. The swirling cloud created a wonderful atmosphere as I enjoyed the downs and ups of the ridge, and the precipitous crags of the western edge. Met one of only two other walkers I saw today on the summit of Meall Buidhe before the steep pull up to the summit of Beinn a'Chreachain, my 141st Munro – halfway! Had lunch on the summit in the clag, hoping it would clear. It didn’t, but as I descended the north-eastern ridge, it did, however the haze meant photos were almost impossible to capture what the naked eye saw. Coire an Lochain looked spectacular with its glacial lake and it was pathless hillside for a while before picking up a path alongside the river. A weird tunnel under the railway required stooping before wading through the wonderfully named Water of Tulla – the bridge was down and has been for a while according to reports. So, with soaked boots, the last few miles followed mostly the western edge of the river back to the car. This trek was made more enjoyable by the views up to the mountains I’d just enjoyed. 141/282.
