April 2015 - (with Gemma) Ascent from Dundonnell. Mountain walking doesn't get any better. Wonderful drive around to the start point followed by an epic mountain day. We ascended from Dundonnell to the ridge of Meall Garbh and then on through Coir a Mhuillinn towards Sron a Choire. There was evidence of a huge recent avalanche to our right as the valley narrowed. Here, we decided to ascend steeply through safer snowfields and get onto the ridge early and take in the extra summit of Glas Mheall Mor. Once on the ridge, the views just got better and better. After returning to the beallach, it was a steep ascent through loose boulders and scree to the summit of Bidein a Ghlas Thuill. This is one of the finest viewpoints I've ever seen in the British Isles: Sgurr Fiona and the An Teallach pinnacles as a backdrop to the yawning gulf of Coire Toll an Lochain. We spent some time here drinking in the panoramas: Distant snowy peaks to the north, east and south, the Summer Isles to the west. Simply stunning. I went on to Sgurr Fiona which provided an excellent scramble to the summit where I got a view of the exposed ridge ahead, one we'll return to one summer. Gemma didn't fancy the down and up and waited on the summit of Bidein a Ghlas Thuill, where we met up again after about 45 minutes. We descended a short way back to the beallach and had lunch, before some snow running down to Sron a Choire, great fun. Achy legs on the long descent and plenty of chat about where this climb rates...we both agreed, very highly.
