April 2018 - (with Gemma) Ascent from Kuznice, Zakopane. Giewont is of the most characteristic peaks of Tatra Mountains situated in their western part, north to the main Tatra range, on Polish side. It is the most distinctive peak in the area and it has been referred to as the "Sleeping Knight" based on its silhouette and old legend. A great ascent through snow and ice. Evidence of recent avalanches all around so we chose our route carefully. Stunning vistas from both summits of the High Tatra. Wind picked up considerably at the col between the summits and, on the summit of Kondratova Kopa, it was reminiscent of our recent Snowdonia trip – massively gusty. We slid down on our backsides for some of the descent, great fun if a little bumpy.
