April 2018 - (with Gemma) Ascent from Przelecz Krowiarki. Babia Góra, literally Old Wives' or Witches' Mountain, is a massif situated on the border between Poland and Slovakia in the Western Beskidy Mountains. The name is also applied to the culmination of the massif, Diablak ("Devil's Peak"), which is also the highest peak of this part of the Carpathian Mountains, at 1,725 metres (5,659 ft) above sea level. It was an hour’s drive south of Krakow so an early start. The weather was great for the entirety of the walk, albeit blustery on the summit. The route we chose contours around the north face of the mountain before joining a steep route up to the summit with some fixed chains and metal bracket sections. The snow was totally unpredictable, at some points waist deep. Great views from the summit of the Tatra range to the south. The summit itself straddles Poland and Slovakia so we spent a couple of minutes in Slovakia! The route down was an ice fest.
