Jurassic Coast - St Aldhelm's Head, Winspit and Dancing Ledge
Distance: 10.6km
Ascent: 320m
Apr 2025 - (with Gemma, Denise and Sophie) Gorgeous weather today with a welcoming breeze. As we brought two cars, we could maximise the coastal part of the walk. The colours were lovely today with the turquoises of the sea really prominent for the first real time this year. Suncream was applied but my face still burnt! After admiring Chapman's Pool and the coastline west, we were invited into the St Aldhelm's Head Lookout Station as I played my Cornish card, telling the staff through the window about my name and its links to the Penlee Lifeboat. Result - to be fair, the dude who invited us inside loved us piling in and he rabbited on for ages about what they do there. He said they'd just had an assessment as some other uniformed folks were leaving as we arrived. I think he replicated his spiel to them to us! After a visit to the cute little chapel, we stopped for lunch before we continued to Winspit and then Dancing Ledge. Sophie enjoyed the short scrambles I forced her to do. There was a large group 'coasteering', a fairly new pursuit I guess, and something that looks great fun; and some guillemots bobbing about on the gentle tides. Gemma and I were so chuffed to be able to take Denise and Sophie to this wonderful coast and we had a blast. Sophie did so well despite not feeling 100%. Beautiful views all around and a wonderful walk with wonderful friends.
