Walk 273 - Steeple, Scoat Fell, Pillar
Vid
Distance: 17.5km
Ascent: 1110m
Feb 2023 - Ascent from Bowness Knott. Magnificent day out with a bonus inversion. Set off again from Ennerdale, and really enjoyed the ascent through the forestry to Lingmell and then onto the Long Crag approach to Steeple itself. Fantastic views all around, and it was clear from the summit of Steeple that there was an inversion over Mosedale and Wasdale, and also under the Helvellyn tops in the distance. This was confirmed from Scoat Fell's summit. Only the tops of the Scafell range were visible and Great Gable. Saw nobody whatsoever on the tops where I was for a significant time, especially on Pillar where I had lunch. Eventually, and reluctantly, I pulled myself away from the wonderful isolation, and descended steeply via White Pike to the forestry. Legendary day.
