Walk 268 - Clough Head, Great Dodd
Distance: 13.5km
Ascent: 850m
Dec 2022 - Ascent from St John's in the Vale. For the first time, I took the Old Coach Road for a few miles before a steep ascent up and over White Pike to Clough Head. Great views of Blencathra and the wind was fine here, but strengthened as I ascended Great Dodd. It was tough going and the last half a kilometre and the summit was horrendous - the strongest wind I've ever walked in. I had to lay down at one point and my walking poles (Glyn's walking poles) were blown clean out of my hands on two occasions. Totally mental. Was glad to get back down to Calfhow Pike. Loved it. Great descent across the north-west face of Clough Head. Back to Keswick and enjoyed a sensational World Cup Final!
