Walk 255 - Nab Scar, Heron Pike, Great Rigg, Fairfield, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike, Low Pike
Distance: 16.3km
Ascent: 1070m
March 2022 - Ascent from Rydal. Bus to Rydal to save the road walk and then the Fairfield Horseshoe clockwise. Met a lovely chap with a dog on the monotonous ascent of Nab Scar and chatted for the majority of the pull up. Soon left him behind and joined the ridge proper. Great visibility westwards with the Coniston fells and the giants of Great Langdale prominent; and Great Gable, Grasmoor, the Pike all clear. Still undecided as to whether I prefer this walk clockwise or anti-clockwise. The views of the horseshoe are probably better this way in ascent, with the panoramas from Heron Pike and Great Rigg excellent looking forward with fresher legs! The cloud was dancing around Fairfield's summit and the temperature plummeted so it was a quick snack then onwards. St Sunday Crag, Cofa Pike and Grisedale looked fabulous over the cornices of snow. Took my time crossing to Hart Crag and then Dove Crag. The far-eastern fells looked great - reminded me that it's been too long since I've enjoyed the High Street range. It was then the long, yet excellent descent to High and Low Pike and eventually, into Ambleside.
