Walk 249 - Bowfell, Esk Pike
Distance: 14.1km
Ascent: 1071m
Dec 2021 - Ascent from Old Dungeon Ghyll. Much chillier today but the summits were clear and it only started to hail towards the end of the walk. An enjoyable ascent up Dave's favourite - The Band, to Three Tarns where the Scafell massif came into view. No-one else about except for a Polish couple (I think) who said I 'looked intelligent' and asked me about the formations of the rocks' skewed strata. I blagged my way through this unexpected geological requirement and pointed them in the direction of the Great Slab! The summit panoramas from Bowfell were glorious and crystal-clear - see the vid. Descended to Ore Gap and then climbed up to the summit of Esk Pike for equally stunning views. I was reminded of a time up here about six years ago which was bitterly cold. Returned to Ore Gap and descend to Angle Tarn. Lengthy descent down an extremely icy Rossett Ghyll.
