Walk 248 - Birkhouse Moor, Helvellyn, Whiteside, Raise
Distance: 16km
Ascent: 1060m
Dec 2021 - Ascent from Glenridding. Just a ridiculously wonderful day. Total inversion on the summit of Helvellyn, Brocken Spectres galore and great folk out and about. Pleasant enough steep pull up from Glenridding and my hopes for visibility weren't high after taking in the featureless summit of Birkhouse Moor. However, as I crossed to the Hole-in-the-wall, the conditions improved hugely. Red Tarn looked icy and Striding Edge was amazing in the ethereal glow. After the climb up to the summit of Helvellyn, it was like arriving in another world. Breathtaking. Spent ages just wandering around on the plateau and taking it in. Scafell Pike, Catstycam, Raise and Skiddaw were islands in the sea of cloud. Took in Whiteside and Raise before descending via Sticks Pass.
