Walk 244 - Red Pike, Starling Dodd, Great Borne
Distance: 13.7km
Ascent: 930m
Apr 2021 - Ascent from Bowness Knott, Ennerdale. A fifth consecutive day of brilliant weather (and another forecast for tomorrow). I have definitely lucked out on this trip. Decided on a somewhat shorter walk today, following the northern edge of Ennerdale Water again, before striking up to Red Pike on a route of ascent I'd not previously done. It was steep but enjoyable with great views across to Pillar, and Gable at the head of the valley. Had a snack on the summit of Red Pike before crossing to Starling Dodd for lunch. It was fun to see the lethal cairn that I almost got blown into and impaled upon the last time I was up here. No wind whatsoever today though. Picked a grassy spot south of the summit for lunch and applied sun cream for the second time! From there, I crossed to Great Borne before the steep descent off Herdus. Lovely walk.
