Lambatindur (854m)
Distance: 10km
Ascent: 876m

August 2014 - (with Gemma) A wonderful drive to the Westfjords today followed by an epic mountain climb! The drive was simply stunning in gorgeous weather. We stopped at Holmavik Information Centre and it was here that the mountain urge became insatiable! I identified Lambatindur (854m) about 45 minutes further around the fjords from our guesthouse for the night in Drangsnes. Gemma was initially reluctant but warmed to the idea as we rounded fjord after fjord and the scenery became more and more incredible. The mountains here are very reminiscent of the Cuillins of Skye, black rock rising in imposing, contorted shapes from the sea. The track to the start point was gravel with some hairpin bends and drops over the cliffs. Gemma was very critical of my driving! Never have we climbed in such an isolated area. We saw no one else or a single path for the entirety of the hike! Despite a path being mentioned on the map, there was none so it was instinct mostly. The climb alongside the gorge was steep and exposed at times, and there were several subsequent mini scrambles to negotiate before we arrived in a huge bowl. From here, we climbed up onto a ridge with stunning views and were left with a proper scramble to the summit which was tiny and offered breathtaking panoramas. We had some fun in the snowfields on the way down! Amazing walk. Later on in Drangsnes we soothed our aches and pains in the thermal hot tubs on the shore.
