Pointe du Midi (2364m)
Vid
Distance: 11.9km
Ascent: 1057m

Aug 2019 - Ascent from Col de la Colombière. From the col, I walked parallel with the contours until a steep ascent up to 2100m, across grass, and over rocky terrain brought me to the caves named Les grottes des Montarquis. Sorry that the photos are rubbish - haven't mastered that setting on the camera! Scooped out at the base of a cliff, these caves show you the extent that water can erode limestone. It was quite eerie inside but a relief from the scorching heat. To get to Pointe du Midi, there was a huge down and up, and finally, a steep scree in a narrow gully which reminded me of Lords Rake. Plenty of Ibex around to keep me entertained though. The views from the summit were spectacular, arguable the finest viewpoint of my stay in France so far. Some fun scree-running in descent via the lake.
