Aug 2019 - Ascent from Col des Annes. Pointe Percée is the highest mountain in the Aravis range of the French Prealps in Haute-Savoie. It has 1643m of prominence and is thus is classified as an ultra-prominent peak. This was just an epic day! Absolutely loved it. Incredible climb in an amazing setting. The scrambling is spectacular and sustained; it reminded me of Tryfan. Despite its ominous north face as viewed on the way in, the route picks its way through brilliantly with only a few pangs of exposure and minimal difficult manoeuvres. After crossing a fairly steep scree, it’s a path through passages where the use of hands is essential to climb into faults, bottlenecks and chimneys that are not equipped, on slippery rocks. Strangely, one of the most difficult sections is right at the start, after the scree. The ridge that is gained just below the summit is amazing and I had to wait whilst a group of roped-up boys crossed in front. The views were astonishing; the weather was perfect.
